A team of 8 students from Te Oranga, Faculty of Education at University of Waikato, in partnership with Sport Waikato, the Waikato Students’ Union (WSU) and The Alegria School of Samba Style Soccer, has been given the opportunity to bring Caneta KO to the Waikato.

This event serves to promote football in conjunction with the FIFA U20 World Cup New Zealand 2015. The students are developing their event management skills through applying the EMBOK (Event Management Body of Knowledge) event-planning model by designing and delivering Caneta KO.

Our event allows us to bring Caneta KO to New Zealand for the first time. Caneta KO is the New Zealand version of Panna KO, a ‘street’ sport played in the Netherlands. It is similar to football, yet it is played in a 6m round cage, 1 versus 1, or 2 versus 2, with the goal being to win by scoring 3 goals or immediately ending the game by passing the ball between the opposition’s legs and then retrieving the ball again (a Caneta).

Our team brings this opportunity to:

  • Sub Zero on University of Waikato Campus, May 26, 27th, and 28th.
  • Raglan Area School, June 5th
  • Kimihia Primary School, Huntly, June 8th
  • Te Kuiti Primary, Te Kuiti, June 10th
The Caneta KO programme aims to promote football, demonstrate Caneta KO, provide people with the opportunity to ‘Have a Go’, and provide a fun competition to ‘find’ Caneta KO champions. The programme will provide participation spot prizes, and handouts and small competition rewards to participants and spectators. The Cage, as we understand, the only football cage in Aotearoa, has been kindly donated by Mike Groom (a former All White.)
