In true ‘community led development’ style, Ngatea has come together to add an exciting feature to the Ngatea Domain – an all-weather track around the perimeter. Constructed of StockRock (very appropriate for this farming community), the track is a little over 1.4kms in length, 2m in width and has the variance of a long or short loop.

The Ngatea Domain User Group, Ngatea Lions, Contractors, Ngatea Primary School, Sport Waikato, Hauraki District Council, Bikes In Schools, Townshend Thomas Charitable Trust, local businesses and residents have joined forces to see the planning and development of the track completed and ready to use.

It is envisaged that the Ngatea Primary School which borders the track will become major users under the Bikes in Schools, Cycling New Zealand and Sport Waikato initiative to get more tracks in Waikato schools. In a win, win situation, the siting of the track will also make it available to the public.

A special thanks must go to the Ngatea Lions led by Alex Quinn and Plains Ward Councillor Ross Harris for their dedication and enthusiasm to see the track completed. The Domain User Group will be keen to see what value can be added now that the basic track is there. Ideas are very welcome!
