Usually a full staff team meeting day, September 18th has been turned into the ‘Good Sorts for Sport’ day helping out around the Waikato region with three very worthy projects.
Over 15 applications were received from as far away as Coromandel and Taupo, and these were then shortlisted with the final three projects chosen in the Hauraki and Thames-Coromandel districts: Maramarua School, Thames Valley Hockey Turf Society Inc and Thames Squash Club were the lucky recipients this year.
All Sport Waikato staff will be working on the projects, from helping to build a bmx track at Maramarua School, to painting, prepping and handyman jobs at the other two locations.
“As a regional sports trust, we know how hard schools, clubs and associations work to provide quality sporting experiences for their communities. Sport Waikato’s vision is ‘everyone out there and active’ and we love that these projects are part of achieving that vision,” explains Sport Waikato CEO Matthew Cooper.
Sport Waikato would like to challenge other organisations to take on some of the remaining project applications they have received.
“It has been very difficult to narrow down to just three projects – these clubs, schools and organisations would so appreciate any help that businesses could offer. If we can get together as a community to lend a hand, we can make a real difference to helping our region to be more physically active,” said Mr Cooper.
If your organisation would like to find out how you can help with a community project, please email email@example.com or call 07 858 5388.
