The main aim of Project Energize is to increase the quality and quantity of physical activity and improve the nutritional status of Primary and Intermediate aged school children in the Waikato. The latest Ministry of Health stats reflected positively for our region, as they show that in 2016/17 Waikato had the highest percentage of healthy weight children in the country.

The MOH charts show that between 2011 and 2016/17  there has been consistent, positive and significant change for the Waikato 2-14 year olds, increasing the percentage of healthy weight whilst at the same time the number of overweight and obese level for children decreasing.

Project Energize carried out evaluations between 2005 and 2011 and results had made slow and steady but consistent change from 2005 to 2011. The Waikato DHB has funded Project Energize to be in every Primary and intermediate School consistently since 2009 and these results really show the benefits of being able to offer constant and strong support to our schools and communities to make changes.

We see Energize as in important piece of the puzzle for these results and by no means the only reason that these results are so positive!
