Developed by Sport Waikato, Whaanau Kori, Tamariki Ora – Active Families, Healthy Kids is a new, free programme aimed at four to six year olds, with the whole whaanau working together to make healthy changes.

The six month programme is flexible and individualised for each whanau, and includes healthy food ideas and tips, fun and easy ways to get moving and active, alternatives to screen time and building good sleep habits.

“Our goal is to reach out to whaanau and instil healthy foundations for our rangatira (future leaders). We have an obesity epidemic in Aotearoa and we need to help families in a way that best suits them to improve beliefs and behaviours around exercise and food. I’m not here to tell people what to do, I’m here to listen, support and educate with simple, back to basics ideas. With strong roots, mighty trees will grow,” says Active Families Lead Coordinator Mandy McCabe.

Whaanau Kori, Tamariki Ora – Active Families, Healthy Kids will be launching in Hamilton on Saturday the 12th of May from 10am to 12pm at the picnic area by the Cafe at Lakes Domain (Hamilton’s Lake Rotoroa).

The free event will include active games for kids, bubble fun, colouring in giveaway bags, as well as free fruit and water. Come and have some family fun and meet with our fabulous team Mandy, Anthonni and Nikki.
